Privacy policy

We handle the data of couples, helpers, and guests with care. Questions? Email hallo@weddingoverview.com.

1. Who we are

Wedding Overview is an online planning app for couples organizing their wedding.

We are based in the European Union, and we apply the EU's privacy law, the GDPR, to everyone who uses Wedding Overview, wherever you live. For our American users that means you get one of the strictest privacy regimes in the world by default.

2. What data we process

3. What we use data for

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. In plain words: we do not sell personal data, and we do not use your guests' data for advertising.

4. Guests and sensitive information

Guests do not need an account. They view information and respond through a personal link or through the wedding website.

Dietary needs, allergies, and accessibility notes can be sensitive. Guests share them themselves, with consent they can withdraw at any time, and we use them only to make the wedding planning work. They are never shown on the public wedding website.

5. Legal bases

We process personal data to perform our agreement with you, to comply with legal obligations, for legitimate interests, or based on consent. For certain guest information we ask the guest's consent.

6. Who we share data with

We share data only when the service needs it: hosting and database providers, email services, payment providers, technical vendors, or authorities when the law requires it. Your wedding data is stored in the European Union (Frankfurt, Germany).

Our email delivery service (Resend) and hosting network (Vercel) process technical or delivery data in the United States. If optional crash monitoring is activated, Sentry stores its strictly minimized error events in its German data region, while its US parent may provide support. The applicable transfers are covered by contractual data-transfer safeguards.

Two services receive only a technical request when someone searches for a place or looks at a map, and do not work on our instructions with your data: komoot GmbH (Photon, Germany) receives the search term and the IP address when you search for a venue, and OpenFreeMap sees the IP address and the map tile requested. No names, guest details, or account data go to either.

For guest data, the couple decides what happens: guest data leaves Wedding Overview only when the couple sends it somewhere themselves, such as the dietary-needs export for their caterer.

The one-time payment is handled by Mollie B.V. in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Mollie receives no guest data, and for the payment transaction itself it acts in part as an independent controller with its own privacy statement.

Current service providers

The full list of companies we use is in one place, with what each one does, where it sits, and what crosses a border: section 10 of the data processing agreement. We keep the list there and do not repeat it here, so that two lists cannot drift apart.

Optional error diagnosis by Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) is switched off and is not on that list. It is activated only after we publish a new version of the data processing agreement that names it. Its events are then scrubbed by our own first-party tunnel and stored in Sentry's German data region for no more than 90 days.

7. How long we keep data

You can always ask for earlier deletion. See section 9.

8. Security

We take appropriate technical and organizational measures, such as encrypted connections, restricted access, and protection of accounts and systems. No system is completely secure, and we will not pretend otherwise.

9. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, and export your data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent.

To exercise a right, email hallo@weddingoverview.com or use Settings, Data and privacy in the app. We respond within one month of receiving your request.

If you live in a state with its own privacy law, you have these same rights and you use them the same way: one email or the settings page, with no separate form. That includes the right to know what we hold, to have it corrected or deleted, to get a copy, and to object. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of.

10. Complaints

If you have a complaint about how we handle personal data, contact us first. You can also lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority, which supervises us, or with the authority that handles privacy complaints where you live.

11. Changes

We may update this policy when Wedding Overview changes or when the law does. The newest version is always on this page.
